JUNIOR GIRLS

The primary objective of the Ashwood Junior Cricket Club is to provide boys and girls in the surrounding schools and area an opportunity to participate in junior cricket. Within the club structure, there are programs and levels to suit children aged from 5 to 17 years old.

The enjoyment of the children participating in the programs is paramount. Whilst cricket within older age groups will become more competitive, enjoyment of the game at both an individual and team level remains central.

Along with our Junior Blasters (ages 5-7) and Master Blasters (ages 7-9) programs, Ashwood fields teams in girls U12, U14 & U17 grades.

The U12 competitions are non-competitive and introduces the girls to hard ball cricket with pads, gloves and helmets. Matches take place on Wednesday evenings and are of 20 overs per side (around 2 ½ hours). The pitch is reduced in length and everyone bats, bowls and fields. Even if you are out you get to keep batting!

U14s also play Wednesday evenings. The onus is still on participation and having fun but once you’re out, you’re out!

The U17s play Sunday mornings and is seen as the precursor to senior cricket when the girls start to play a little bit more seriously. Everyone still has a role to play, either as a batter, bowler or wicketkeeper (we have no professional fielders), but match situation awareness begins to emerge.
